I’m creating a new webpage for my professional work since I’m about to graduate from Central St. Martins
That’s why there are no new posts on my blog, I’ve been very busy shooting my graduation project so stay tuned!

I’ve finally finished my BA dissertation, one of the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do but these last 7 months have been very productive and fun. I managed to reach my goal in time and I am forever happy for all the help I got along the way.

My Dissertation Blog

Over the summer I have been researching Feminism/Feminist Propaganda – Female Icons in politics; where I interviewed Vigdís Finnbogadóttir, first female president in Europe.
I looked at Sexuality in Art/Design/Advertising – Objectification of women – The impact technology has on human behavior; where I interviewed Cindy Gallop, feminist and female entrepreneur in the advertising world.
I also looked at Female Icons in music/Music videos – Pornification of culture > impact on youth; where I interviewed two 14 year old girls, Kolbrún Björnsdóttir and Ingibjörg Marín Rúnarsdóttir

But in the core of my essay, I’m basing my research around three women in the music industry; Patti Smith, Annie Lennox and Madonna. I chose these women because of their artistic and commercial success, they are all a huge influence on their next generation and all of them have opened different doors for women. In my analysis I’m situating them within social and historical context by taking into account the changing debates in feminism and politics in issues surrounding sexuality, equality, identity and androgyny.

After contemplating different layouts for my text, I felt that the female body was the most appropriate layout for my dissertation, so I wrote my dissertation on a female body.

That, in itself, was a performance and it was a statement that combined all the things I’ve looked at in my research. The fear of female flesh is fear of female power, and reclaiming women’s bodies must go hand in hand with reclaiming women’s power. I managed to find a model that is both feminine and masculine, so she was perfect for my ‘challenging the feminine’ layout.
